 Klages Web Design has been designing web sites that help small and medium size businesses improve profitability and efficiency of their operations since 1998. I am Ken Klages and I have developed a solid reputation for excellent customer service and dependable results since getting involved with web design. I hold a degree in mechanical engineering from Lehigh University and have 12 years of corporate work experience followed by 17 years of self employment.
I build sites using Dreamweaver, Frontpage (if you insist), or even straight html. I can set you up with a custom-programmed site for e-commerce or custom database management, and if you want some Flash animation, I know how to use Flash so it does not kill your search engine rankings. And, if you want to be able to edit your own site, I can set it up to work with Adobe Contribute software which allows the end user to quickly and easily make their own updates to the site.
My experience running my own businesses has given me an understanding of the challenges facing small businesses. This means I will help make sure your site is an effective marketing tool with good usability and clear navigation. That means your site will be a tool that helps your business be more profitable. Although I try to work personally on the majority of my projects, I also have a team of talented free-lancers who I can bring on board to any project where we need specialized capabilities or more manpower to finish a big job on a tight time schedule.

I am NOT a Graphic Designer
Be careful who you hire to build your web site. There are millions of beautiful looking web sites on the web that were designed by a graphic designer who bought some web design software. Unfortunately, these sites are often totally invisible to the search engines.
Problems that will prevent your site from ranking well on search engines include:
- Use of Frames
- Use of beautiful fonts embedded in graphics
- Minimal text on the page
- Page Titles like "Your Company Name"
- No use or improper use of Alt Tags
- Confusing site navigation
- Lack of keyword analysis and targeting
- Improper keyword density
- Many more technical factors
My opinion is that I would rather have an ordinary looking site that sells lots of my product than a beautiful site that does no sales at all.
